Barrier System secures landmark The Railyard project in Cork
HAKI Barrier System is helping deliver safe, efficient edge protection on The Railyard project in Cork, Ireland’s tallest residential building. Its modular, EN 13374-compliant design keeps the 25-storey project moving safely and efficiently.
As high-rise construction projects become increasingly ambitious, contractors require edge protection systems that deliver uncompromising safety without slowing progress. On The Railyard development in Cork, HAKI’s modular edge protection system is helping the project team maintain safe working environments while keeping pace with a fast-moving construction programme.
Project Overview
The Railyard is a landmark residential development on Albert Quay in Cork’s Docklands. Once complete, the 25-storey, 85.53m tower will become Ireland’s tallest residential building, providing 217 affordable apartments through Clúid Housing.
Delivered by JCD in partnership with Clúid Housing and Cork City Council, the project presents the challenges typical of modern high-rise construction including multiple working levels, evolving construction phases and a requirement for reliable collective fall protection.
Scope of Work
Maintaining safe working at height across a 25-storey structure demands an edge protection system that can be installed quickly, adapted as construction progresses and provide compliance throughout every stage of the build.
The project required a collective fall protection solution that complied with EN 13374 while supporting the demanding pace of a major high-rise construction programme. With completion scheduled for Q4 2027, the system needed to be quick to install to help maintain productivity and keep the project on schedule.
In addition, AB Access Scaffolding Ltd wanted the system to incorporate its branding, creating a visible presence across one of Cork's landmark developments.

HAKI supplied a complete EN13374-compliant edge protection barrier system designed to meet the project’s demanding safety and operational requirements.
