Reconstruction of Kabomhuset in Alingsås

The municipality of Alingsås, Sweden, is in the process of transforming the historic Kabomhuset into a modern municipal office, bringing to light the building's rich heritage and unique challenges. This 11-storey high-rise residential project, managed by Wates, began in September 2023 and focuses on comprehensive fire safety enhancements to ensure compliance with strict health and safety regulations.

Suspended Stair Tower at DEEP underwater living facility in Wales

In summer 2023 HAKI were presented with the challenge of providing a solution for safe access into the flooded quarry which has a deepest underwater point of 80 meters. This solution needed to have multiple levels above and below the water to provide employees access to the research facility and the 360m2 pontoon for deploying subs.

Renovating Britain's busiest rail station, London Waterloo

The 100-year old station roof will have around 10,000 new glazing panes fitted to replace the existing glass. This replacement will facilitate improved lighting throughout the station and a 50% reduction in the total glass weight to minimise the stress on station infrastructure.

Our Norwegian customer Bergen Stillas has taken on one of its biggest projects to date - the St John's Church, which is crumbling and suffering from fallout. The church is the third tallest building in Bergen, reaching 61 metres above the ground, but its age and height are not the only things that make it unique. It also has a rather peculiar shape. Bergen Stillas' current focus has been to secure the church with customised scaffolding.

The renovation of the tower roofs at Lund Cathedral, Sweden, is a unique project where nearly 900 years of cultural heritage meet modern engineering. The old Tøyenbadet in Oslo has been demolished and the brand new indoor swimming pool facility is now a work in progress – with HAKI selected as the main shoring and scaffolding supplier together with our customer MB Stillas. Tøyenbadet will be the city's largest swimming facility, and will consist of both indoor and outdoor areas.

Solution for the EnQuest Magnus Platform

EnQuest Magnus (formerly BP Magnus) was one of BP's best-known assets on the UK continental shelf and BP has benefited from a long production run from the oil field. As well as providing hydrocarbon production from the field, Magnus is also the entry point for the Northern Leg gas pipeline, with gas exports from other nearby installations feeding the network for transfer to the onshore St Fergus gas terminal via Brent's.

A rope access inspection of the South Span of the Forth Rail Bridge highlighted a number of fractures in the steelwork that required to be repaired. Suitable access was required to allow repairs to the steelwork and coating works.

Ninian Central - Crane Boom Replacement

The Ninian Central Platform is a UK North Sea oil platform. Built in Loch Kishorn, Scotland in 1978, the 600,000-tonne structure was the world’s largest movable man-made object at the time, before being towed offshore and installed on the seabed.

Now at the end of its operational life, it is set for multi-year decommissioning. Before work began, one crane boom was replaced to ensure reliability throughout the project.

Hound Point - Mobile Bridge Encapsulation

Hound Point, an Ineos-operated oil export terminal on the Forth Estuary, required recoating of a deteriorated access walkway.

Due to load restrictions preventing traditional scaffolding, a lightweight, fully contained painting gantry was needed to provide safe access while maintaining operations.

Ensus UK, a bioethanol fuel manufacturer producing sustainable livestock feed by-products, required a replacement for an end-of-life industrial grain dryer. To support installation and commissioning, HAKI Access Solutions was contracted to design, supply, and install a temporary system scaffold building to provide weather protection — ensuring construction activities, particularly welding, were protected from wind interference.

Bridge of Cally - Cantilever Drop Scaffold

Bridge of Cally, a village in Perth and Kinross, Scotland, experienced significant bridge damage following heavy rainfall that overwhelmed the drainage system, causing parapet failure and partial undermining of the road deck, resulting in a lane closure. Our client was appointed Principal Contractor, with HAKI Access Solutions subcontracted to deliver specialist scaffolding and rope access services to support the repair works.

Royal Border Bridge - Viaduct Refurbishment

The Royal Border Bridge is a Grade I listed 28-span masonry arch viaduct carrying the East Coast Main Line over the River Tweed. Inspections identified defects including loose brickwork, open joints, parapet deformation, fractured pattress plates, and other masonry deterioration.

HAKI Access Solutions were contracted to design and install a bespoke access solution to enable safe access for the abseiling team to complete the required repairs.

Tay Road Bridge - Underdeck Access

During the 2023/24 restoration of Tay Road Bridge — a key link between Fife and Dundee — VolkerLaser undertook deck refurbishment and underdeck concrete repairs on the structure, which has been exposed to decades of severe weathering since 1966.

HAKI Access Solutions were contracted to provide underdeck access to around 20 repair locations over a two-year programme.

Appointed by the council, JGM Electrical subcontracted HAKI Access Solutions to carry out specialist work at height, replacing 180 high-bay luminaires with LED units. Works were completed using mobile towers and rope access at heights of up to 14 metres.

Fawley Refinery - Tank Relining via Cradles

Esso Fawley, the largest refinery in Europe, required relining of one of its storage tanks to accommodate aviation fuel, including specialist coating and roof upgrades.

HAKI Access Solutions proposed an alternative access solution to traditional scaffolding for spray application works, supporting the use of a remotely operated closed blasting system to improve surface preparation quality while reducing risk and cost.

TechiSpan speeds up Forth Road Bridge steelwork changeout

During routine inspections of the Forth Road Bridge in 2015, a crack in the pivot of one of the truss end links was discovered. The changeout of the affected steelwork initially took 18 months to complete; largely slowed down by the traditional scaffolding having to be continually modified to react to the changing work scope.

BP Mungo PFP Offshore Project

We specified the use of HAKI-Span 750 suspended access platform. While used for a number of previous projects, both on and offshore, this installation required a creative deviation from our typical methods of installation. Due to the lack of available pick-ups for both the finished platform, and for the rope access installation team, HAKI Access Solutions used additional wire rope winches to gain access to the area, and to facilitate the installation.
