V - COMPRESSION POST SOLUTION SELECTED FOR LONDON'S CANARY WHARF BANKING DISTRICT

Work on refurbishment of one of the tallest tower blocks within Canary Wharf began in July 2023 and is due for completion in 2025. This full refurbishment will ensure that the building, opened in 2001, is modernised whilst setting a new standard in sustainable design. The 3-year project has been spear-headed with staff well-being at the forefront ensuring that improved collaboration, connection, light and greenery are achieved at project completion.

As part of the development work the contractor has removed the existing glass panes from each level for cleaning, this process is conducted across many of the buildings 42 floors. Throughout the cleaning process some of the building will be exposed to the leading edge.

In early 2023 customer GKR Scaffolding engaged with HAKI regarding the project and the concern outlined above. Overcoming complex access challenges is a shared mission between the two companies so mutually identifying the best solution to eliminate high risk environments was essential whilst ensuring that all trades can work safely and productively.

After realising the project requirements HAKI proposed the V - Compression Post system. An intuitive toolless solution which provides full height barrier containment over 3 meters when using two Mk4 Barriers and Make Up panel. The V - Compression Post solution was particularly beneficial to this project due to the rapid speed of installation and the need for operators to install and move the system between floors quickly to keep up with the refurbishment work. As part of our service offering all of the relevant site operatives were taken through training which is an essential part of our safety at height work. The product-oriented training offers a practical understanding of product, reiterates good practices when using technical data sheets and reviews the weekly check guidance. Additional training was offered to the customer whenever new operatives started to work on the site and could be booked in easily.
