9 700 m2 of complete site safety

HAKI Edge supplied The Harbour Central project in East London with a complete site safety solution to secure a safe development of 901 luxury apartments.

Measuring 9700 m2 and consisting of 4 towers totalling more than 130 floors and a further 3 low rise buildings, Galliard Homes Ltd ambitious Harbour Central Project demanded a complete site safety solution. Modebest Builders Ltd had no hesitation in selecting HAKI Edge as their key partner to fulfil their needs.

As Health & Safety is always the primary focus for us, we choose to work with reliable partners who can provide a comprehensive safety solution to help us deliver the project on time. We partner with HAKI Edge for that reason, says Michael Brennan, Contracts Manager, Modebest Builders Ltd.

Safety planning from the beginning is vital on any project. It not only ensures all known risks are carefully considered and planned for but it also contributes to completing projects on time. For temporary access needs, HAKI Edge Stairways were used to provide safe, quick and easy access to a range of excavation depths. During the formwork decking phase, Alsipercha provided uncompromising fall arrest safety whilst enhancing productivity through its large coverage area, allowing site operatives safe, unhindered movement across the deck.

On this project, the HAKI Edge Catchfans were installed around the perimeter of the building together with a customised barrier system on each slab, which collectively provided excellent protection during construction. These products mitigated the risk of falling objects to provide excellent containment safety for operatives and members of the public throughout the project.

Large concrete pour solutions

The Harbour Central Project has posed several challenges. The most complex aspect of this construction was a 2m deep second floor transfer slab in the Maine Tower comprising of 1350m3 concrete and 400 tonnes of steel, 90 tonnes of single, double and triple storey aluminium frame decking and 2.4m high shutter panels placed along the 130m perimeter. Two separate concrete pours were required to construct this slab. These pours were 1,350m3 and among the largest singular pours of C70/85 carried out in the UK.

Complete workzone safety

Reducing risks and minimising hazards are key priorities in any work place, it assists in keeping everyone safe. HAKI Edge help their customers achieve this by supplying complete workzone safety solutions to support the safe delivery of projects on time and within budget.

When finished, the Harbour Central project in London’s Docklands, located just minutes from the financial centre in Canary Wharf, will provide a vast range of luxury apartments along with penthouse apartments, a library, a concierge, a gym and spa, business suites and a cinema.
